Southern Highlands Initiative

.

The Southern Highlands Initiative (SHI) is a regional economic development partnership coordinated by Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC) and the Nick J. Rahall, II Appalachian Transportation Institute (RTI).

The vision of the Southern Highlands Initiative is to stimulate economic development through comprehensive regional planning and coordination of transportation and infrastructure investments for six counties in southern, West Virginia served by Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College: Boone, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming.

These efforts are possible as a result of a $498,900 grant received by the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College from the United States Department of Housing and Development. The grant was secured through the efforts of Congressman Nick J. Rahall, II.
