Southern assesses each new student to identify the
students academic strengths and weaknesses so appropriate course
placement can be achieved. Entrance assessment provides information to
assist in assessing present level of competencies, placing students in
appropriate courses and developing instructional programs to meet the
needs of entering students.
Students may not enroll in a mathematics course or English course
which is designed to be applied toward a certificate or associate degree
unless the minimum score prescribed is earned on at least one of the
following tests.
Mathematics:
- Enhanced ACT - a score of 19 or above on the Mathematics section.
- ACCUPLACER - a score of 85 or above on the Arithmetic test and a
score of 84 or above on the Elementary Algebra test.
