The Dental Hygiene Program at Southern prepares the
student to examine, assess, and treat dental patients using a variety of
diagnostic and treatment modalities. Dental hygienists are invaluable
members of the dental team in providing comprehensive dental care for
their patients. Employment opportunities include private practice,
education, and county, state, and federal agencies. Dental hygiene is a
highly compensated and rewarding career. Flexible working hours are
common, and with the implementation of expanded duties, the demand for
dental hygienists is high and continues to grow country-wide.
All courses must be
completed with a "C" or better by the semester indicated in order to
progress to the next semester.
Please note: Modifications to the Dental Hygiene
Program course sequence were made based on recommendations from the
program's accrediting body received in April 2005. Unfortunately,
it was too late to make the change in the 2005-2006 college catalog as
it was already at the printers.
The course sequence above reflects the recommended changes.
