Approaches day-to-day oral communication from a practical point of
view, with emphasis on a proficiency in the oral language
presentations.

Presents the basics of analyzing audiences, maintaining interest,
reasoning, supporting an argument, and using psychological appeal.
Provides practice in the application of these elements in various
styles and forms of public address.

207 Business and Professional Speaking (S)
3 Semester Hours
Prerequisite: SP 103.
Provides instruction and practice in oral communication for
business and professional situations such as informal
conversation, interviews, small group discussions, conference
speeches, and multi-media presentations. Includes study of
parliamentary rules of order.

Prerequisite: SP 103.
Theory and practice of speech production and improvement.

The study and practice of skills in both retentive and empathic
listening.

250 Communications Internship (F)
4-5 Semester Hours
On-the-job training and instruction in a communication
organization. Students assignments consistent with vocational
objectives. Normally taken during the last semester.

275 Special Topics in Speech (O)
1-3 Semester Hours
Prerequisite: Permission of Division Chair.
Presents courses in Speech which the College expects to offer only
once or occasionally in response to specific community needs. The
course may consist of seminars, specialized or individual
instruction, and/or research in an area related to Speech.
