Admission Procedures
To take a course, a student must first be admitted to
Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
Southern admits as regular students those individuals who
have high school diplomas or GED equivalents. Those who have
received diplomas or GED’s within the past five years and are
enrolling in certificate or degree programs must submit
transcripts or score reports prior to the end of the first
semester.
Other persons, who may not have earned high school diplomas
or GED equivalents, and who believe they may benefit from
college courses, may be admitted as "conditional
students." These persons must be evaluated individually by
the Registrar, and given admission requirements.
Admission does not imply eligibility for, or admission to,
any specific program for which more stringent entrance
requirements have been established.
Southern admission applications are available by contacting
Central Records at 304.792.7160 x. 121 or 122.
Mail your completed application form to:

Important Note: If you are planning to
enroll in just this course, you must apply for admission as a non-degree
seeking student. If you are attending another
college and plan to enroll in just this course, you will also
need to complete a transient student form. Please see
your advisor or the registrar at your home institution for a
transient student form.
If you are planning to attend Southern and enroll in other
courses in addition to this one, apply for admission as a regular
student.
Definitions of Non-Degree Seeking and Regular
Student:
Non-Degree Seeking Student. Students wishing to take
credit courses for personal enrichment, job improvement or
reasons other than to complete a certificate or degree
program at Southern may enroll as non-degree seeking
students. These individuals must submit completed admissions
applications as well as official transcripts from other
college(s) attended.
This person may change his/her status to degree seeking
student by completing the proper admissions requirements in
the Records Office, and he/she must then complete all
program requirements to earn the desired certificate or
degree.
Regular Student. Regular students must satisfy all
admission requirements and provide transcripts. Visit admissions
for additional information.
Students may also apply to Southern via
the West Virginia Common Application. The State supported
colleges and universities in West Virginia have worked together
to develop and distribute the Common Application.
